Tear Trough Filler Aftercare

Your Step-by-Step Home Care Guide

Tear trough filler is a delicate non-surgical treatment that uses hyaluronic acid dermal filler to restore volume beneath the eyes, reducing the appearance of hollows, dark circles and tired-looking eyes. As the under-eye area contains very thin, sensitive skin, it is common to experience mild swelling, tenderness or bruising following treatment. These effects are temporary and will gradually settle as the filler integrates with the surrounding tissue, revealing a smoother, brighter and more refreshed appearance. Following the correct aftercare is essential to support healing and achieve the best possible results.

For the safest recovery and the best possible results, please follow the aftercare guide below.

Step 1: Apply a Cold Compress

Gently apply a clean, wrapped cold compress for short intervals during the first 24 hours to help minimise swelling and bruising.

Step 2: Avoid Touching the Under-Eye Area

Do not rub, massage or apply pressure beneath your eyes for at least 24 hours unless instructed by your practitioner.

Step 3: Sleep With Your Head Elevated

Sleep on your back with your head elevated using an extra pillow for the first two nights to help reduce swelling.

Step 4: Avoid Exercise and Heat

Avoid strenuous exercise, saunas, steam rooms, hot baths and excessive heat for 24–48 hours, as these may increase swelling around the delicate eye area.

Step 5: Delay Make-Up and Facial Treatments

Avoid applying make-up directly beneath the eyes for 24 hours and postpone facials or eye treatments for at least two weeks.

Step 6: Stay Hydrated

Drink plenty of water to support healing and help maintain the hydrating properties of your hyaluronic acid filler.

Step 7: Allow Time for Your Results

Mild swelling or unevenness is normal during the first few days, with your final results becoming visible once the area has fully settled over approximately 10–14 days.

Step 8: Attend Your Review Appointment

If your practitioner has arranged a follow-up appointment, attend as recommended so your results can be assessed and reviewed.

When to Contact AJM Aesthetics

Some bruising, swelling and tenderness are expected following tear trough filler treatment. However, please contact AJM Aesthetics immediately if you experience severe pain, excessive swelling, changes in vision, unusual skin discolouration, signs of infection or any symptoms that concern you.

Maintaining Your Results

Tear trough filler typically lasts between 9 and 18 months, depending on your individual metabolism and lifestyle. Maintaining good hydration, protecting the delicate eye area with daily SPF and attending maintenance appointments as recommended will help keep your under-eye area looking brighter, smoother and naturally refreshed.
